Thanks for trying the Sharpie blackout technique (scientific terminology there) in class. Please share at least one of your blackout text pieces as a COMMENT on this post. You could type the text you left on the page as a sentence or poem or story. You could also take a picture with your phone and post your work that way on your own blog, but that is optional.
I'm thinking you could do this same technique with any printed material containing a good chunk of text to work with. I also think you could be inspired to write all sorts of other pieces by using your blacked out piece as a starting point.
You could visit Austin Kleon's website to see what others have come up with and even post your own work there if you're up for it.

*Moonlight winced in the daylight. Was autumn dead? I didn't know.
ReplyDelete*She didn't answer. The love she was wanting changed into darkness. It didn't matter.
Long ago, "my wife" thought i could deal safely but in return i crossed one leg, then she's done, shes gone. Now all i offered is a decrease level of sexual desire....Wife? Sometimes all it takes is sidestepping a date. Now i ache with agony......
ReplyDeleteShe comes to the bed and sits beside me. I dreamed about leaning my head against her shoulder, and breathing softly.
ReplyDeleteThe horses went still forever
ReplyDeleteWhen I purified water
There was pressure on her that would go on
I wondered But working only
Every now and then on Saturday never made him jump and yell.
Puke into my large and naked open bag of potato chips. "Well" She sighed.
ReplyDelete1. Everything stopped;
ReplyDeletethe blood,
my breath.
His smile came to an immediate halt.
2. Warmth and generosity uncover nonstop progress.
3. He felt the heat.
She smiled
and stayed until Saturday
4. I wish you
didn't say
no.
Band members blurred together and somewhere among them my dad turned to look, and his face was stale and sour.
ReplyDeleteSome people going to think that
ReplyDeletedon't let them get to you
I won't But I
think the truth
- it's not to be ashamed of
The truth was

who was proud
But sometimes
the truth was
a lot for her

the great King was

wanted to
ask
does he

I also found this:
her face was white,
eyes unblinking
a dingy power puff
The shape of her body
ReplyDeleteDidnt call us
at night
Hours of dark silence
Was So exciting and important
might leave us to navigate the world
She was younger, never noticed her before.
ReplyDeleteWould she be the type to be charmed to force a nation's attention her way?
Anxiety tugged, one not-guilty vote,
Haunting courtrooms
Elsewhere, figures in vibrant colors began a small array of works just to say, "Grace is hope."
ReplyDeleteyour hand leaving a smudge of stars
ReplyDeletethe stars were out
I guess, folded into pain, breaking one time
burning between something shimmering.
I wanted to sit beneath the stars again
"You left us." Outside, the rain was falling steadily, and the sky was caught in between day and night. I turned away from the window. "We woke up and you were gone."
ReplyDeleteMy father just rolled his eyes.
"No one ever talked about what it was like," I can't cry, not now, "feeling all empty and lost."
Floating,
ReplyDeletePassing through my mind
Imagining this moment,
This most beautiful moment
My heart beating hard
Afraid he could look
Right through me
"Don't hide anything,"
He whispers softly,
"Believe me."
Falling softly in love
Is quiet,
And warm and bright,
Believe me
Even if you're covering it up
There's no penalty for
Being in love,
Believe me
I closed my eyes
ReplyDeleteShe never cashed and I never fell
"You're out of control."
But I didn't feel out of control. I didn't feel anything.
We were beasts of burden
I knew about darkness
About pain
But I could not be scared
I could feel the heat of his breath on my face
I was not some little girl.
I kissed him
"Why'd you do that?"
"Because I could."
Pure and simple.
WOW!!! I love these. You all are masters.
